Colin Meloy solo tour this spring, ATL 4/10

Pitchfork reports that Colin Meloy, the frontman for indie powerhouse The Decemberists, will embark on a solo tour this spring. While he has done so before, I believe this is the first time that he'll visit Atlanta on his own. He'll be supporting Colin Meloy Sings Live! due April 8 from Kill Rock Stars, and will also be selling a tour-only EP of Sam Cooke covers. Portland singer-songwriter Laura Gibson will open the tour.

Colin Meloy - Barbara Allen [1-18-2006, KEXP; Shirley Collins cover]
Colin Meloy - Clementine [1-18-2006, KEXP]
Laura Gibson - Hands in Pocket

Oooh yay! Seeing Colin (and co.) once in July filled my seersucker suit-age quota for the entire summer, so this could set me up for all of 2008. Good times.

I'm certainly glad to see he's coming here on his own. I adore The Decemberists and all, but a change of pace is welcome.

It will be interesting to see how he does without the fun and antics of Chris Funk and co.
