The Minutemen from 'Watchmen': Comparing Snyder and Gibbons

Alan Moore's Watchmen is probably my favorite graphic novel, and it's been nice to see much of Zack Snyder's work on the forthcoming film adaptation. Today the big reveal is a still picture of the Minutemen characters from the book. They were heroes of the 1940s in the Watchmen universe, and immediate predecessors to its main characters. The cool thing about today's reveal is its fidelity to the graphic novel, including the garish and ridiculous costumes of the Minutemen.

Released today via Ain't It Cool News, from Watchmen (2009):

(left to right) Silhouette, Mothman, Dollar Bill, Nite Owl I,
Captain Metropolis, The Comedian, Silk Spectre I, Hooded Justice

From the original art by Dave Gibbons:

From Watchmen #1

From Watchmen #2

It's not an exact match, but it's pretty darn close. The film release will be accompanied by a direct-to-DVD launch of the animated "Tales of the Black Freighter," a moody pirate story read by a character within the Watchmen story. The film and DVD are currently set for a March 2009 release.
