New Avett Brothers - "Murder in the City"

When we last checked in with The Avett Brothers, they were rockin' the Variety Playhouse and showing why they're a humdinger of a live band. Now they have a new EP, The Second Gleam, due July 22. That release will feature a half-dozen new tracks, and they've just made one of them available for download. "Murder in the City"is a stark and ominous tune, and showcases the family dynamic shared by the band's frontmen.

The Second Gleam will be released by Ramseur Records.

Thanks to Luis for the track!

I've e-mailed the label to ask what's up. I'll try to update when I can, but I'll be out and about on Friday.

Bands on tour who are not coming to Atlanta this summer (in no particular order): Built to Spill, Wilco, Death Cab, Pearl Jam, The Racontuers, Broken Social Scene, Rilo Kiley, !!!, Foo Fighters, Beck, Gnarles Barkley, Bright Eyes, Drive By Truckers, Okkervil River (Athens is not the same). This is just a handful off the top of my head. Did we do something wrong? Do our promoters suck? Somebody tell me what is the deal is here?

label is pretty green to mp3 downloading world...they thought the link they sent us was a streaming only link.

MOKB's post got posted on the Avett's board and the label freaked out. You couldn't tell as they deleted all the message board posts releated to the hubbub...

nice people, kind about it, just didn't know what they were sending out. have since been educated...

i've set up an imeem stream on MOKB in it's place.

Thanks, Dodge. I was curious. They never responded to my e-mail either, which they're usually good about.
