It's St. Patrick's Day -- let's get pissed!

I'm not an Irish lad (or lass), but like many Americans I'll be using today's holiday as an excuse to go out and drink. To celebrate and get everyone in the proper frame of mind, today I offer an assortment of related tunes. I suspect this post would have the full approval of both Darby O'Gill and the little people.

How about some Irish punk drinking songs to get the holiday going? Raise a glass and rock out:

Dropkick Murphys - Finnegan's Wake
Flogging Molly - Drunken Lullabyes
The Mahones - Drunken, Lazy Bastard
The Bloody Irish Boys - Drunk Tonight
The Mahones - A Drunken Night in Dublin

If Irish punk isn't your thing, maybe hip-hop floats your boat. Here are some fine malt lyrics by House of Pain. It's in effect, y'all:

House of Pain - Danny Boy, Danny Boy
House of Pain - Top o' the Morning to Ya

In addition, here are some live Irish tunes by those lovely JLC gents from Charleston, South Carolina (from St. Patrick's Day 1999, no less):

Jump, Little Children - Banish Misfortune (live 3-17-1999)
Jump, Little Children - Irish Tune > Speed the Plough (live 3-17-1999)

Since Janet from Out the Other can't be the only history lover in the blogosphere, you can also read a bit about the history of St. Patrick's Day on the website of the History Channel. It'll surely give you tons of random trivia to impress your friends and foes.

Have a drunken, safe, and snake-free St. Patrick's Day! If you're in Atlanta, look for me at the James Joyce Pub and probably later at Brick Store. You better be wearing green though, because I will pinch your ass. Well, not necessarily your ass, but it's possible. Have a great weekend!

Just discovered Planxty - you might like them. Bad advise in the title means I am a weeping slug today!
