My wife and I are going to Hem/Over the Rhine, two of our favorite bands, even if my friend calls it "bedwetter music."

Don't know if you read Paste, but the new issue has a list of the 100 greatest living songwriters.

Guess who's #74? Over the Rhine. Ahead of Patti Smith, Fleetwood Mac, Pink Floyd, Robert Pollard, and Stephen Malkmus.

Neat, huh?

Candi Staton (soul legend!!!) will be bringin' it at the Aurora Coffee in Virginia-Highlands at 3PM Saturday. She kicks off an afternoon of music at Aurora during the Va-Hi Summerfest -- around 4PM, Cassavetes will play following Candi; after that, Chickens And Pigs at 5PM and then Ocha La Rocha at 6PM. Then, around 7PM to about 9PM, it's our usual Local Songwriters Night with John Harris and the Sin Hounds, Day Mars Ray, and our good friend (and host) Brad Jones. Not to diss the rest of the musicians on Saturday, but Candi Staton is the Real Deal, y'all. 3PM sharp.

Also, then on Sunday back at Criminal in L5P, Maxwell & Mosher (from the Squirrel Nut Zippers) will play a set at 3PM, just cuz they want to.

Oh, and our awesome friend Curt Wells fixed the in-store PA, so that static hiss that you've been hearing won't be there next time. Yay!
