The Lovely Sparrows

The Lovely Sparrows are one of several very good bands currently on the roster of San Francisco-based Abandoned Love Records. As you can probably tell by looking at the picture above, they're a four-piece. As you may not be able to tell from the pic, they're from Austin, Texas, and they play darn good pop music. To date I have only sampled the three tracks available in this post -- two appear on the "Glad Rangers" 7" release and all three are available on their MySpace page. This is infectious stuff in the mold of New Pornos, GBV, or Destroyer. Principal songwriter Shawn Jones handles most of the vocal duties on the songs below, but they do also feature occassional guy/girl harmonies. They have an EP due out later this year titled Pulling Up Floors, Putting on (New) Paint. I'll be sure to post an update when the release date is announced.

The first track below, "I Have a Need You See", begins by saying that "I have a need you see/to exceed your expectations." Well, I can say they've certainly done that. I'll be looking forward to checking out the EP when it becomes available. For now, give these a listen:
