A couple shows coming up at The EARL I'd like to highlight...

The Preakness are headlining at The EARL on Thursday night (12/7). Y'all should know I heart these Atlanta-area indie upstarts. Opening will be The Eyes and Silver Lakes.

Also...

This Saturday (12/9) one of the Atlanta music scene's more unique events takes place. The Happenstance, an annual event at The EARL, will bring together musicians from 30 or so area bands. The participants will show up at the venue on Saturday morning, and be randomly assigned into impromptu bands of 5 members each. They spend the day composing and practicing a 20 minute set to be performed that evening. Each band will also perform one cover song consistent with the secret theme of the evening... but you'll have to find out what that is on Saturday.

Happenstance (n) : an event that might have been arranged although it was really accidental.

Happenstance 2006 is proud to have musicians from the following bands playing this year: Aviator, Black Love, Blake Rainey and His Demons, Bob, Brodie Stove, Cadillac Jones, Chickens & Pigs, Day Mars Ray, Disguise the Sky, Divided Like a Saint's, Envie, Gentle Avenger, Georgia Fireflies, Johnny & The Punctuals, Jupiter Watts, Long Knives, Moorish Idols, Moresight, Myssouri, National Grain, No River City, Ocha la Rocha, Rolling Sixties, Sex in Cars, Silent Kids, Soft Collision, Stovall, The Early Modern Witch Trials, The Eyes, The Hardly Darlings, The Shut-Ups, The Sudden Rays, TouchXtone, and more!

Doors open at 9pm and the cover charge is $7. All proceeds will be donated to The Atlanta Community Food Bank. Bring 2 cans of food and admission is only $5. Preferred food items are: Peanut Butter, Canned Tuna, Canned Beans, Canned Soups, Stews and Pastas, 100% Fruit Juice, Canned Fruits and Vegetables, Macaroni and Cheese Dinners, Whole Grain, and Low Sugar Cereals.
